WHAT IS AN E-SCRIPT?
And why should you ask for one next time you see your GP?
E-script stands for electronic prescription. It is a new way to be prescribed medications, first used in WA in July 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of the GP printing your prescription on a piece of blue paper, an SMS is sent to your phone. This SMS contains a link, that when clicked-on leads to a page that displays a QR code for your medication. Pharmacies are able to scan this QR code and dispense your medication as usual. Then instead of receiving your repeats in paper form, the repeats are sent as another SMS back to your phone, to be used later on.
Alternatively, the link can be sent to and from your email address instead of your phone number if thats what you prefer.
E-scripts contain all the same information that paper based prescriptions do, they are safely encoded to protect your privacy, and can be dispensed at most pharmacies.
